FUT transplant results take time. While you may see some initial changes right after surgery, the transplanted hair will actually shed within a few weeks. This is completely normal and part of the natural hair growth cycle.
The good news is that the transplanted follicles aren’t lost, they’re simply resetting. After a few months, these follicles will enter the growth phase and begin producing new hair. The new hair will then follow the same natural hair growth cycle as your existing hair, but with the benefit of permanent growth in the transplanted area. So, while you’ll need to be patient, the result is long-lasting hair restoration.
Seeing full results after a hair transplant takes patience. While the donor area recovers quickly within 2-4 weeks, the transplanted area takes longer. You’ll start to see new hair growth around 3-6 months, with most of the transplanted hair visible by one year. However, for the final, natural-looking outcome, you’ll need to wait around 18 months for the transplanted hair to fully mature.
FUT transplants offer lasting results because the transplanted hair follicles are permanent. These follicles are genetically resistant to balding, so the transplanted hair will continue to grow throughout your life. However, it’s important to remember that your overall hair loss pattern might continue. That’s why we create a personalized plan considering your specific baldness and may recommend additional treatments like medications or even future transplants if needed. This ensures you achieve the best long-term results for your unique hair loss situation.
Before your FUT transplant, we’ll apply a local anaesthetic to the area being operated on. This numbs the area during surgery, minimizing discomfort — many patients even feel relaxed enough to watch a movie while the procedure takes place. Afterwards, any remaining soreness can usually be managed with simple pain medication. For added peace of mind, you’ll also receive a follow-up consultation the next day, detailed aftercare instructions, and 24/7 access to the clinic’s phone number for the first three days post-surgery.
